Mustafa and Emine Ak, along with their children Alper, Sena, Kutay, and Efkan Ak, went for a swim to cool off at the Turkish-İş beach in the Atakum district. After a while, the family faced the danger of drowning, and onlookers immediately alerted the authorities and rushed to help.
Upon receiving the report, the Samsun Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department’s lifeguards, the Coast Guard Black Sea Regional Command, the Provincial Security Directorate Marine Branch, and health teams were dispatched to the scene.
Three of the children were quickly rescued from the water by citizens. However, Mustafa, Emine, and their son Alper Ak were brought ashore by lifeguards in an unconscious state.
The family of six, who were at risk of drowning, were taken to Ondokuz Mayıs University Health Application and Research Center and private hospitals in the city by 112 Emergency Health teams.
It was learned that the family had come to the city from Kahramanmaraş to enroll their children in Aziz Atik Science High School in Samsun.
