Tuzcuoğlu, who first went to Yozgat Kadışehri district affected by the earthquake, received information about the current situation from Yozgat Governor Mehmet Ali Özkan. Then Tuzcuoğlu went to Tokat, where the epicenter of the earthquake was Sulusaray, and conducted inspections. Deputy Minister Tuzcuoğlu, who received information about the studies from Tokat Governor Numan Hatipoğlu and AFAD officials, inspected the on-site damage assessment studies.

After the field studies, Deputy Minister Tuzcuoğlu, who went to the district governorship in Sulusaray, the epicenter of the earthquake, announced that upon the instructions of Minister of Environment, Urban Planning and Climate Change Mehmet Özhaseki immediately after the earthquake, National Damage Assessment Teams (UHTE) were assigned from Ankara, Samsun, Ordu, Sinop and Giresun Provincial Directorates to the affected provinces. Tuzcuoğlu stated that the teams started damage assessment studies in the region and said, “Alongside the 20 teams and 50 technical personnel we directed from neighboring provinces and the ministry, we continue our studies in Yozgat and Tokat. If necessary, we will increase the number of technical personnel under the coordination of our esteemed Governor and AFAD.”

Deputy Minister Tuzcuoğlu expressed that they received 500 reports from Tokat and 150 reports from Yozgat, stating, “We determined that the structures heavily affected in Tokat and Yozgat were mainly buildings built before 1999. We see that these buildings are mostly adobe, masonry structures dating back 40-50 years, built without engineering and scientific services. So far, we have received 500 reports in Tokat. We continue our on-site inspections with our technical teams based on the reports received. 50 buildings were inspected by our ministry’s technical teams; 8 independent units in 5 collapsed buildings, 23 independent units in 15 heavily damaged buildings, 45 independent units in 20 slightly damaged buildings, and 30 independent units in 10 undamaged buildings were identified.”

Tuzcuoğlu stated that they also received 150 reports from Yozgat, saying, “In the initial inspections conducted by our ministry, 40 buildings in 9 villages, 1 town and two neighborhoods connected to the Kadışehri district were inspected; 10 independent units in 5 collapsed buildings, 8 independent units in 5 heavily damaged buildings, 40 independent units in 25 slightly damaged buildings, and 8 independent units in 5 undamaged buildings were identified. Our studies are ongoing continuously.”

In public buildings, Tuzcuoğlu stated that no damage was seen, saying, “This is a comforting thing. Actually, what comforts us the most about the earthquake is that we did not have any loss of life. We will hopefully complete the detections regarding the structures as soon as po
